The main source of research support in Canada is Tri-Council funding. The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) support and promote high-quality research in a wide variety of disciplines and areas.
Complete guidelines on selecting the appropriate federal granting agency are available at www.science.gc.ca. They include general guidelines for the eligibility of subject matter at SSHRC, NSERC, and CIHR and specific guidelines for applications related to health and in the field of psychology.
Research Alerts is an e-mail and web tool for the Office of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation to share information with members of the U of T research community, based on members’ individual roles and interests. Research Alerts enable staff in the Vice-President Research & Innovation portfolio to customize dissemination of important, timely research-related information to better ensure that people receive only the information they want and need. Research Alerts is intended as a targeted ‘call to action’ for funding opportunities, technology transfer initiatives, workshops & events, financial management of funded research projects, honours & awards, and research-related policies & guidelines. Users can sign up to receive alerts by e-mail or access them via a web-based search function.
Accounts are created by the Office of the Vice-President Research & Innovation and individuals customize their account settings through simple selection of topics and categories that are of interest so that when an Alert is published that matches the selected categories, it is e-mailed directly to the individual. A UTORid and password are required to establish a customized account.
