The Sustainability Office is starting a Chocolate Wrapper Collection sponsored by Nestle Canada. Terracycle.ca is an organization that collects previously non-recyclable items to be upcycled or recycled into new products.  To divert some of the waste produced by UTSC from going to the landfill, cholocoate wrappers are being collected on campus in labelled Terracycle Bins.

Once you have enjoyed your chocolate bar, place the chocolate wrapper in the labeled collection bins around campus. Any size or brand of chocolate wrappers are accepted. This does not include paper, tissue or candy wrappers.   Labelled Terracycle Collection Boxes are located around campus and there is one in the Sustainability Office. The collection of chocolate wrappers will raise money for a charity organization while diverting waste on campus.  If your department or office would like a collection bin, email or call the Sustainability Office and one will be provided to you.

As of December 14th, you can recycle your used chocolate wrappers at five Toronto Area Cineplex theatres.  These locations include

                       - SilverCity Yorkdale Cinemas

                       - Cineplex Odeon Varsity and VIP Cinemas

                       - Scotiabank Theatre Toronto

                       - Cineplex Odeon Queensway Cinemas

                       - SilverCity Richmond Hill Cinemas

So next time your have chocolate at the movies, place your wrappers in the Terracycling boxes so they won't end up in the landfill.
