Summer Scholars Program

Introduced in 2009, this competitive program fully funds original research by selected senior undergraduates in Social Sciences. This provides excellent research experience for students expecting to go on to graduate programs. Working under the supervision of a professor, each student purses research on a topic proposed and developed in consultation with his or her supervisor. The research typically involves a review of relevant literature, development of a methodology, surveys, analysis and a written report. Funding for each student is about $4000 for the summer. The research is presented at the end of the summer at a conference.

Research projects for Summer 2011 covered a range of topics from Caribbean travel advertising to religion and multiculturalism in the GTA.

The program is competitive, and applications are assessed on the basis of their academic record and a research proposal. Program details and the application process for Summer 2012 will be advertised in the Department in February 2012.
Please see the application form, program flyer, and outline of possible research methods below for further information.
