Health is an extremely important area of study from social and policy as well as biological perspectives. Social scientists are especially concerned with the social determinants of health, including income, age, housing, and gender. They are also interested in the structure and effectiveness of different types of health care systems, public health policies, government responses to epidemics. The Health Studies program has a core of courses addressing these types of issues and combines these with relevant courses from other related disciplines including Anthropology, Biology, Economics and Philosophy.
