In 2008-09 Professor Susannah Bunce pioneered two new courses that engage with communities in East Scarborough. In part these are taught off-campus and in those communities. This allows students to test the theories they have learned in the classroom as they participate in the social and political activities of disadvantaged neighbourhoods, and so to develop a sensitive understanding of the challenges and opportunities they face.
