Anthropology is an academic discipline that engages with both the natural sciences and more humanistic modes of inquiry.
Socio-cultural anthropology has historically emphasized qualitative research while biological anthropology draws heavily upon quantitative methods. Archaeology has traditionally performed a mediating role between these two subfields in that it incorporates both qualitative and quantitative styles of research. Topically, several themes unite the current complement of U of T Scarborough anthropologists as a whole including migration studies, social change, and the origins and significance of urbanization. The Department of Anthropology is a centre of methodological excellence, specializing in the training of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Students can earn a BA or BSc depending on the area of specialization.
