The Master of Environmental Science 12-month professional program offered at University of Toronto Scarborough. It started in 2006 with an enrollment of 16 part-time and full-time students and has grown to accommodate approximately 65 individuals. While our program offers both a research and internship option, most students opt into the internship stream.
Full-time students in the internship stream are available for 4-month (or longer) placements beginning in May. Many of them are looking for a longer term or even a permanent job because internships start when program course work is completed.
Students in the Program have a very strong science base and take a significant number of courses in Environmental Science, ranging from, Soil Chemistry, Hydrogeology, Microbial Detection, Environmental Risk Assessment, to Environmental Law, and more. View course descriptions
Approximately 50 students begin their job search process in January. Employers are recommended to contact us in December to start the recruitment process. Please refer to the ‘submit a job posting’ section or contact the internship coordinator at 416-287-7358 or at amrusso@utsc.utoronto.ca for more information.
Many of our perennial employers utilize the placement as a ‘working interview’, a way to assess skill sets and how the student “fits” into your organization, with a view to filling a longer term position. During the internship, both you and the student will learn about each other, and will be in a good position to decide whether a longer term or even permanent position is right for both of you.
