To understand the transport, distribution, fate and impacts of chemicals in the environment demands knowledge of a broad spectrum of cognate environmental disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics and geology.
This knowledge base extends well beyond the boundaries of any single discipline. However, the necessary multidisciplinary expertise is readily available in the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). Our faculty are well-positioned to meet the challenge of training well-qualified students for careers in the environmental sector.
The program includes dedicated graduate courses with the objective of educating skilled practitioners of environmental science, who are well-trained in field and laboratory techniques, primarily to meet the needs of industry, government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). However, it also provides an excellent basis for students aiming to pursue a Ph.D. degree in the environmental field.
New graduate program at campus offically launched (March 2, 2006)
Eight months of course work followed by a four month internship placement in private industry, government or non-government organization (NGO) for a minimum of 4 months.
Eight months of course work followed by a four month research project under the supervision of a research faculty member.
An option in which a student may complete requirements for the Internship or Research Option within six years.
