Permit Renewal Letter

Permit Renewals

For May 1st permit renewals, please see the information below for your specific type of permit:

North Lots 4 & 5

Employees who currently have and wish to continue using a North lot 4 & 5 permit, please contact us by email upon receipt of this letter to let us know that you want to continue with your permit choice in 2013. We'll then send you a new 2012-13 permit. Please note: general North lot permits will only be valid in lots 4 and 5, and will no longer be valid in Instructional Center lot H.

North Lots 4 & 5 Monthly Rate 2012-13: $65.66 (increase of $1.91/month)

IC Lot H

If you wish to park in IC lot H, please email Parking Services upon receipt of this letter. We'll then send you a permit valid only in lot H. Please note that due to the preferred location of Lot H, a 10% premium in addition to a general 3% increase has been applied to permits valid at this location.

IC Lot H Monthly Rate 2012-13: $72.23

Evening Permits (South Lots)

Employees who wish to purchase South lot evening permits (valid after 4:00PM weekdays, all times on weekends) are asked to please email or phone Parking Services as soon as possible. We'll then send you a new 2012-13 Evening permit.

Evening Permit Monthly Rate 2012-13: $39.40 (increase of $7.52/month)

South Lot Permits

After completion of the East Arrival Court construction this summer, fewer permit parking spaces will be available in the Lots C, Beechgrove and E ("Ring Road"). As demand for these spaces is expected to exceed supply, we invite only those employees who held Inner lot, payroll deduction permits in the month of April 2011 (and months prior) to contact Parking Services by email to express their interest in obtaining a South lot permit.

Expressions of interest will be accepted until Thursday May 31st/12, after which point permits will be assigned for use in September. Until that time, faculty and staff applying for Inner lot permits are asked to continue using their current 2011-12 Employee parking permit in North lots 4 & 5 during summer 2012 (please see East Arrival Court construction information below).

If you do NOT want South lot parking or are not eligible to apply for one, please email Parking Services and request either a North Lot 4 & 5 or IC Lot H permit. We'll send you your new permit as soon as possible.

South Lots Premium Monthly Rate 2012-13: $85.36 (increase of $21.61/month)

Accessible Parking

Employees who have a valid MTO accessible parking permit and who wish to use the accessible spaces in Lot C and the Beechgrove in September will be charged the North Lots 4 & 5 rate of $65.66 per month, as is past practice. Employees using South lot accessible spaces are asked to contact Cathy Fontaine in Parking Service to put your name in for a South lot permit once the lots re-open.

Cancellations

Should you wish to cancel your parking permit altogether, please email parking [@] utsc.utoronto.ca prior to Friday April 13th, 2012. This will allow us to cancel your deductions in a timely manner.

Changes to Parking

As announced earlier this week, the East Arrival Court project will begin construction in May 2012. This development will bring much-needed improvements to traffic flow at the overburdened Main Entrance by creating two additional entrances and exits – one for permit holders and visitors, and one for TTC and GO buses at a new bus loop. These features will greatly improve the safety of members of our community, both while driving and walking.

The EAC project will impact the number of parking spaces on the South campus that are available for employee permit holders. Parking Services and the Parking Advisory Review Committee (PARC) have discussed how rates in the remaining South lots will be affected by this change, and how permits for these spaces will be allocated.

At a March meeting of PARC, several recommendations were endorsed by the committee:

  1. Recognizing that the reduced number of South campus permit parking spaces will be in high demand, a premium of 33.9% (3% general increase plus 30% premium) will be applied to South campus rates. This will move us away from the harmonized rate for North and South lots that was introduced in 2011.
  2. As demand for South campus parking permits is expected to exceed supply, Parking Services invites only those faculty and staff members who held South lot permits in the month of April 2011 – the last month when there was a rate and location distinction between Inner and Outer lot parking – to email Parking Services to indicate interest in obtaining a South lot permit in September 2012. This system will allow those who held Inner lot permits for many years to have a better chance to keep parking in these lots.
  3. Recognizing that the proximity of North lot H to the IC building is similar to that of the South lots to the Main Campus buildings, but demand is significantly less than for the South lots, a premium of 13.3% will be applied to permits valid in lot H (3% general increase plus 10% location premium)

East Arrival Court Construction Phase – Summer 2012

During construction of the East Arrival Court, there will be no parking available on the South Campus with the exception of a) parking for those who require accessible parking, and b) pre-arranged visitors in Lot F. All employee parking will be relocated to North (Outer) lots 4 and 5. Lot 3 (accessed from Ellesmere Road) is available only to visitors displaying a valid receipt.

Accessible Parking during Construction

As the accessible parking spaces in Lots B, C and D will be unavailable during construction, alternate arrangements will be made to accommodate drivers with MTO accessible permits. Please contact Michael Soberal (msoberal [@] utsc.utoronto.ca) at your earliest convenience to discuss temporary accessible parking locations.

Joint UTSC/St. George Permits

Those of you who have joint Scarborough/St. George parking permits will be contacted in June 2012 regarding renewal of your St. George parking permit.

Parking Services would like to thank each of you for your patience and cooperation during the transitions to come in the next few months. Your questions are welcomed – please contact Michael Soberal, Manager of Physical Security, Fire and Parking, at msoberal [@] utsc.utoronto.ca.
