Introductory  Biology
at UTSC is designed to encourage students to think broadly and critically about the major areas of study in Biology.
There are two courses - BGY A01H (Introductory Biology - Part I), which is offered in the Fall 2007 Semester (September to December) and BGY A02H (Introductory Biology - Part II), which is offered in the Winter 2008 Semester (January to April). These courses are prerequisites for all other Biology courses at UTSC.

NOTE:   BGY A01H is not a prerequisite for BGY A02H.  Students may take
BGY A02 in Winter 2008 without having taken (or passed) BGY A01!

NOTE:   There are some restrictions  on  BGY  A01F  and  BGY  A02S
until the beginning of the Fall  2007  Semester (September 2007).

If you need BGY A01 and/or BGY A02 but are unable to register because of the Restrictions,
you will have to wait until these restrictions are removed in late August 2007.
Restrictions will be lifted only if there are spaces available in these courses
on August 31, 2007

These courses will be opened to upper year (2nd year) students in Life and Physical Science on August 31 and the to other students on Sept. 4  (space permitting).

KEEP CHECKING ROSI over the summer for UPDATES on COURSE RESTRICTIONS!!

BGY A01H - Introductory Biology - Part I  focuses on cell structure and function as well as cellular metabolism.  The First Half of the course provides an overview of the composition, structure and function of the major organelles.  The nucleus is examined in detail stressing its role in cellular function, cell proliferation and inheritance.  In the Second Half of the course, the principles of cellular metabolism are explored using the photosynthetic and respiratory pathways as two important examples.   The role of chloroplasts and mitochondria are examined.  Finally key aspects of plant structure and function are discussed.  The diversity of living organisms, especially bacteria, protists and plants, are considered throughout this course.

There are  24  1-hour  Lectures covering the Biology content in BGY A01F.
The  2  Lectures per week are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday
          -  for Lecture Section LEC01  from 11 a.m. to  12 noon in  AA-112

Be sure to attend the Practical in which you are registered.
There are 12  weekly  1-hour Lectures in BGY A01F  (designated as FS2 or   Foundations in Science Skills)  Lectures)  that are scheduled on Friday
-  for Lecture Section LEC01  from 10 a.m.  to  11 a.m.  in  AC-223
-  for Lecture Section LEC02

These Lectures, which are given by the staff of Teaching and Learning Servcies (TLS), are designed to help BGY A01H students adjust to the transition from high school to university by providing information on study skills, writing / math / statistics requirements for the course and advice on preparing for and taking tests / exams at university.

Take advantage of these Lectures as they will provide strategies
 for success in
