Non Degree Students

Please Note:

As of August 2009, we will be offering the Non-degree Program to UTSC Alumni only.  Current non-degree students will be managed on an individual basis.  If you have any questions or concerns contact Audrey Quirion, Undergraduate Coordinator at 416-287-7271 or quirion@utsc.utoronto.ca.

Non-degree students may be allowed to take individual courses as credits towards professional certification (for example in accounting or human resource management). Students must be registered with a recognized certifying body.Students may take courses if they have fulfilled the prerequisites or have the permission of the Supervisor of Studies and have completed their degree.  See Careers in Accountancy.

Application Form for Non-degree Students.

For the most part, admission requirements, academic regulations and services that apply to degree students, apply also to non-degree students taking courses in the Department of Management. This page is intended to supplement the information in the Course Calendar, identifying areas where special rules apply.

Non-degree students will be admitted to courses only if there is room after regular degree students in Management programs have been accommodated. Applicants must provide specific information regarding previous education and work experience. To assist in designing individual course selection, the application form will ask about one's educational objectives. Applicants may begin in either semester of the Fall/Winter Session or the Summer Session.

Careers in Accountancy

U of T Scarborough offers a significant number of courses which have been recognized as meeting part of the educational training of Chartered Accountants, Certified General Accountants and Certified Management Accountants.  Appropriate Co-op work terms wth designated C.A. firms will be recognized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario as part of their internship requirement.  Brochures describing the various Programs and listing the recognized U of T Scarborough courses are available from Academic Advising & Career Centre.

Admission Requirements for Non-Degree Students

For the most part, the requirements for admission as either a Certificate in Business student or a non-degree student in Management are the same as they are for degree students and can be found in the Course Calendar.

Specific admission requirements can be found below:

• Applications must be made directly to Audrey Quirion, Department of Management, Office IC 256, U of T Scarborough, 1265 Military Trail, Scarborough, Ontario, M1C 1A4.

Application Forms are available online or in IC 256. The primary objective in the admission process is to ensure that successful applicants have backgrounds that offer a good chance of success. Since both programs concentrate on business, special attention is given to work experience particularly in the case of applicants who are borderline in terms of educational background.

• The application deadlines for the Certificate in Business and Non-degree students are outlined below under Application Deadlines.

• There is an initial application fee of $24 (non-refundable) for Non-degree students.

• Once admitted, Certificate in Business students follow the general registration procedures published each year by the Registrar's Office. After their initial registration, they are automatically eligible to register in future sessions (provided, of course, they remain in good standing). However, if they take some time off and want to return after an absence of three or more consecutive sessions (at least 12 months), they must reactivate their enrolment by submitting an "Application to Re-enrol" to Registrarial Services (Room AA142). At this stage there is a re-enrolment fee, which is currently set at $24.

The University of Toronto Scarborough reserves the right to refuse admission to applicants who may have covered a substantial amount of the program in their previous studies.

Application Deadlines

April 5 for Summer session 2013
July 5 for Fall session 2013

November 1 for Winter session 2014
