DECA U of T brings home 12 Medals from the DECA U Provincial Conference

DECA U of T proved they were a force to be reckoned with after scoring 12 medals at this year’s DECA U Provincial Conference that took place on January 23rd – 25th 2009 at the Sheraton Centre, Downtown Toronto. This year’s Conference saw 550 competitors from 14 different DECA U Chapters (14 Universities) compete in 16 different business categories.
The Conference which was split into two segments; Business Simulation and Case Study allowed competitors to showcase their knowledge in business-related areas such as management, marketing and entrepreneurship through written analysis and oral presentations. Participants were challenged to think outside the box while demonstrating their ability to manage strict time limits. Venelina Georgieva, President DECA U of T and Gold Medalist claims, “It’s great because you get to compete against leaders from other universities and learn what your own capabilities are.” And with business categories ranging from Financial Accounting to Fashion Merchandising & Marketing, participants definitely tested their limits potential, merging what they learned from their university curriculum to real business scenarios.
DECA U of T made up of a group of brilliant and hard working UTSC students made their mark at the Conference, with ten DECA U of T’s members winning a whopping 12 medals:
Business Simulation:
Patrick Lee - 3 Medals, including a Gold Medal in Retail Management, competed against 79 other competitors;
Henry Cao - a Bronze Medal in Retail Management, competed against 79 other competitors;
Eddie Shiu - a Top 5 Medal in Restaurant and Food Services Management, competed against 77 other competitors;
Nabeel Ahmed - a Top 5 Medal in Financial Services sponsored by TD Bank, competed against 77 other competitors;
Case Study:
Rima Khullar and Rishi Sholanki - Bronze Medals in the team category Business-to-Business Marketing, competed against 30 other teams;
Calvin Lem and Jonathan Pham - Silver Medals in the team category Sports and Entertainment Marketing sponsored by CMA, competed against 34 teams;
Venelina Georgieva and Michael Arduini - Gold Medals in the team category Business Law, competed against 28 teams.
All 54 DECA U of T competitors put in a tremendous amount of work to prepare for the DECA U Provincial Conference and have proven to be some of the top leaders on campus. The University of Toronto Scarborough and the Department of Management are proud to recognize DECA U of T for their outstanding efforts.
