Accounting students show they have what it takes to be a CA!

CASH Competition Third PlaceUniversity of Toronto Scarborough students and teammates, Michelle Lung, Bilal Khan and Sherry Feng brought home $1,500 and much campus pride after placing third in the Institute of Chartered Accountants’ (ICAO) CA$H Competition on January 12, 2008.  This is the second year in a row that U of T Scarborough has placed in the top three, having received the first prize last year, proving that U of T Scarborough students have what it takes to be a successful Chartered Accountant (CA).  This year over 120 students representing 18 universities across Ontario participated in the intense and fast-paced competition designed to test CA bound students on skills needed to be a successful Chartered Accountant.  U of T Scarborough had the privilege of enrolling two teams in the competition, consisting of three members each who were hand-picked by MESA as exceptional accounting students and having met ICAO requirements.

The second team consisting of Samantha Seto, Chelvan Sivayogapathy and Mohamedhassan Hassanali also performed exceptionally in spite of a rough start.  Astonishingly, they were able to come back strong and proud in the second round winning a whooping 29,000 points.  If not for a shaky start they could have very possibly taken the CA$H Cup home.

Congratulations go out to both teams that competed in the CA$H Competition this year. Both teams are notably recognized for doing an amazing job of representing U of T Scarborough, and they should all be very proud of themselves.  If the strong effort put forth this year is any indication of what is to come next year, U of T Scarborough will be the school to beat in 2009.

With successes such as winning the CA$H Competition last year, and placing third this year, as well as the UFE results of having 2 of the 15 honor roll spots and the Gold Medalist coming from U of T Scarborough, students are proving that U of T Scarborough is definitely an up and coming power house when it comes to Accounting and more importantly, the Chartered Accountancy designation.
