Management Alumni Enjoy A Day at the Races!!!
On Saturday, July 12, 2008, the Department of Management and the Management Alumni Association (MAA) hosted an alumni event at the Woodbine Racetrack where guests enjoyed an afternoon of sumptuous dining, live thoroughbred horse racing and lively conversation.
The Woodbine Racetrack which was specifically chosen because of its social atmosphere and unique appeal, proved to be an ideal venue. In a casual and friendly environment, the event provided an excellent opportunity for management alumni, MAA Executives and staff from the Department of Management to socialize. Not to mention, guests were thrilled at the opportunity to experience live horse racing, something many never had the chance to do before.
During the event, many discovered their inner love for horse racing and were unable to contain their enthusiasm as the races commenced. Most people having never placed bets on horses before quickly learned the rules from helpful Woodbine hosts and with races every 20 - 25 minutes, the excitement was kept alive with many trips to the delicious buffet and strategic last minute betting. While some people took in the races from the private room directly overlooking the racetrack, others ventured to the outside grand stands for a closer look. Surprisingly, for an amateur crowd, by the end of the afternoon a few people walked away with their pockets a little heavier.
This year’s event proved to be a tremendous success, leaving many alumni in anticipation of future events. Many alumni mentioned that not only were they pleased with being able to reconnect with fellow graduates but also that they were able to experience something new – that being live horse racing.
The Department of Management in collaboration with the Management Alumni Association looks forward to hosting many more exciting alumni events in the future.
