Tim Richardson Comments on Personal Domain Name Purchases

In December 2007, Tim Richardson is quoted by the Canadian Press wire service in an article about the Internet that appeared in numerous newspapers and online sites across North America, including the Washington Post, the Edmonton Sun and the Halifax Daily News. The article is titled “More and more people buying up personal domain names on the Internet.”

Liang Chen Writes Award-winning Thesis

A thesis written by, Management Professor, Dr. Liang Hsuan Chen, has won a prestigious award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), an international association that represents more than 3,200 educational institutions as a source for professional development in the fields of education, fundraising, communications and alumni relations. Chen received one of two Alice L. Beeman Research Awards in Communications and Marketing for Educational Advancement for her thesis “Choosing Canadian Graduate Schools from Afar: East Asian Students' Perspectives.”

Is Your Info Secure?
During the second week of January 2007, Tim Richardson was interviewed by itWorldCanada.com for a story about security breach notifications. Bill C6, the PIPEDA Act was federal legislation that required companies to keep customer profile information confidential and free from risk. The problem is that there is no legislation giving Bill C6 teeth — there are no consequences for companies who have situations where customer data are stolen or put at risk. Richardson explained that organizations like CIPPIC have argued for a Canadian law requiring that companies notify individuals when their personal profile data have been compromised as a result of some risk or threat situation that developed. He explained that presently there is no pressure for companies to let customers know they are/were at risk, other than pressure that comes about as a result of media exposure if a story breaks.

Kristyn Scott, a Management Professor, was interviewed on Report on Business Television on January 30, 2007. She discussed her research on "Female first, leader second? Female behaviour often unrecognized as leader behaviour."

Gordon Cleveland Comments on Expansion of Kindergarten

Gordon Cleveland, an expert on the economics of early childhood education, was a guest on Dec. 5, 2007 on TVO’s The Agenda with host Steve Paikin. The discussion looked at the new provincial government policy in relation to child care and early learning following a provincial government announcement on the expansion of junior and senior kindergarten to full days within the next three years.

During the second week of January 2007, Tim Richardson was interviewed by itWorldCanada.com for a story about web managed hosting facilitated through a franchise structure. This relates to one of the topics he teaches in the MGTD06 course "Marketing in the Information Age."

Textbook Updated on the Web by Students

During the first week of January 2007, Tim Richardson had his sixth text (fourth e-commerce text) published. Titled Current Issues in Marketing in the Information Age, Second Edition, the book, published by Thomson Nelson, is used at UT Scarborough, UTM and other post-secondary institutions. The interesting thing about the book is that the chapter content is replicated on a matching Web site that is updated with contributions from students who take the course in which the book is used.

Scarborough Accounting Students Finish on Top
Three Scarborough accounting students won an annual competition at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the CA$H Cup. They won $3000 and MESA received $1000 as the best accounting society.

Tim Richardson Provides Commentary on Web-to-voice Applications
During the 3rd week of March 2007, Tim Richardson was interviewed by itWorldCanada.com for a story about the development of voice-enabled business applications that can be used with any existing wired, VoIP or wireless telephone. The story focused on jaduka.com, which is a voice-enabled Internet technology provider that launched an interface that enables the next generation of web-to-voice applications.

Distinguished Alumni Award for 2007

Congratulations to both Lindsay Chu and Thomas Gingras who were award with the Distinguished Alumni Award for 2007.  Lindsay was recognized for her exceptional achievement as the 2007 Ontario Gold Medalist for the Chartered Accountants' Uniform Final Examination, while Thomas was recognized for his outstanding achievement as a 2007 Honour Roll recipient for the Chartered Accountants' Uniform Final Examination.
