INFANT LAB SCHEDULE

This is the infant lab subject schedule. To sign up for a baby, simply click on the study name/day/time and you will be able to send an email to Angela - Lab Coordinator. If the link doesn't work, it means the slot is filled.  Reservations are made on a first come first serve basis. Please make sure to come to room H302 half an hour before the time listed here, so that you can observe the set-up for the study.  If you arrive at the lab and find an "Experiment in progress, do not disturb" sign on the door, it means the study has begun. You will not be permitted to enter so please do not knock.  When you email Angela, please make sure to say which appointment (Experiment name, day, and time) you are requesting.   APPOINTMENTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! It is your responsibility to sign up for other appointments.

Please put "Lab Appointments" as the subject line in the email!

Here is a description of the various studies:
CAT-FEAT In this study we are interested in what features do infants use in categorizing objects.  We will show them different pictures of cars and change either the shape of the windows, or the wheels.

CUE ASC

This study focuses on infants ability to use "cue association" for location of hidden object. For this purpose, an object is hidden in one of two cups placed on a table in front of the infant, where the pattern on the object and the pattern on the cup provide clue to the location of the object. The position of the two cups is then changed in relation to the infant, and the infant is then encouraged to retrieve the object.

CUE-DET

In this study we are interested in looking at young children's ability to recognize and utilize cues in the environment when searching for a hidden object.  We will be hiding a toy car behind a screen with doors and we will as the child to retrieve the toy by opening one of the doors.

PIC PER

The goal of the study is to look at infant's ability to generalize from two-dimensional pictures to actual three-dimensional objects. During the experiment infants are shown a line drawing of a toy several times. Afterwards the line drawing is replaced with the actual toys and the infants reaction to the displays is observed.

SEARCH B The goal of  the study is to determine whether adding a barrier to the classic "A-not-B Error" study changes the frequency of the error. An object will be hidden in one of two cups in front of the infant, a barrier will then be placed in front of the cup with the hidden object and the infant will then be encouraged to retrieve the object.

Room-SRC The purpose of this study is to learn more about how infants search for
hidden objects. We are interested in seeing how viewing an object being
hidden from different viewpoints will affect s child’s object search
ability. In this study, children will see an experimenter hide a toy at a
particular location within a room, and will then enter the room themselves and search for this hidden toy.
TOOLS In this study we are interested in looking at how infants perceive how tools are used.  The child will be seeing short clips of tools being used in different ways, one being a proper way, and the other is an unconventional way.

LOOK In this study we are interested in looking at infants auditory and visual intermodal perception.  The infant will be seeing a videotaped display of a bouncing ball with an accompanying auditory soundtrack.
