The University of Toronto works to ensure that an environmentally responsible, safe and healthy work, research and study environment exists for all its members. We do this by being proactive in identifying risks and emerging issues and by developing and implementing innovative, practical and sustainable processes to manage them, including training and awareness, teaching, provision of expert advice, emergency response and assurance.

Through close collaboration with all members of the University community we establish and maintain health and safety systems that are widely acknowledged to be of excellent quality and that, while not limiting or impeding academic freedom and freedom of research, maintain a high level of safety.

In Case of Emergency

To report serious incidents involving any situation requiring immediate police, fire, or medical response to preserve life or property:

• Call 911
• From an Internal Phone Line, dial 9-911
  

When calling 911 remain calm and speak clearly. Identify which emergency service you require (Police, Fire or Ambulance) and be prepared to provide the following information:

• What is happening?
• What is your location?
• What is your name, address and telephone number?

Be sure to notify the Emergency Medical Response Group (EMRG) or Campus Police at the emergency number 416-287-7333 as soon as possible. Campus Police will meet the ambulance, fire department, or Toronto Police and escort them to your location and provide additional support services as required. You may also contact Campus Police via any emergency phone line available on campus or make a toll-free call from any Bell Payphone on campus.

For Non-Emergencies and general safety inquiries, contact U of T Scarborough Police at 416-287-7398. Community Police Services are available 24 hours a day throughout the year.

Accident Reporting

It is important to follow reporting requirements for accidents, occupational illnesses and incidents which result in or have the potential to result in personal injury or property damage. These procedures cover employees, students, visitors and other persons on university premises.

  Provides a broad range of health and safety services, training, and information to the University community, including a listing of health and safety policies and procedures applicable to working life on campus.

  • Guidelines on the Use of Perfumes & Scented Products
    Exposure to perfumes and other scented products can trigger serious health reactions in individuals with asthma, allergies, migraines, or chemical sensitivities, and the impact on all those affected can be quite severe, resulting in great difficulty in work and study activities.

  Works with and supports other departments committed to examining and addressing workplace health issues and improving the quality the university working environment with ongoing programs.
