How to Apply

All positions for 2012/2013 have been filled.

Please check back in September 2013 for next year's opportunities.

If you are a full-time University of Toronto student, you have the opportunity to join our team! The DMG is committed to providing students with hands-on, professional gallery experience through our participation in U of T’s work-study and co-op programs.

Work-Study

Doris McCarthy Gallery
As our gallery attendants, DMG work-study students are the public face of the gallery and the first point of contact with our audiences. Their primary focus is to animate DMG exhibitions, providing information about artists and discussing the artworks presented with gallery visitors. Work-study students also have the opportunity to assist gallery staff with a wide range of gallery activity, from installation to finances to marketing, providing them with valuable insight and hands-on experience in the day-to-day operations of a public gallery.

Gallery 1265
The student-run G1265 functions as a learning laboratory in which students gain experience in every aspect of gallery operations. The work-study student staff is provided with the tools – budget, resources and staff support from the DMG and VPA Studio – to run the gallery each academic year, learning skills around curatorial research and effective presentation, developing budgets and marketing plans, and enhancing their problem-solving abilities.

HOW TO APPLY

DMG and G1265 work-study positions are hired in September for the fall and winter semester. In order to apply for a work-study position an applicant must be a University of Toronto student registered full-time and receiving OSAP.

Co-op Internships

The DMG offers placements each year to UTSC co-op students. Co-op students are involved in almost every area of gallery activity, from working with exhibiting artists during installation of their work to researching the Permanent Collection to assisting with grant applications. They also develop and execute special projects for the gallery according to their specific interests.

HOW TO APPLY

Co-op placements are open to UTSC students enrolled in the Arts Management and Arts & Science co-op programs. For more information, visit the ARTS & SCIENCE CO-OP website.
