Research developments in the field of neuroscience have been characterized by progressively greater specialization. Future advances will require neuroscience trainees to be well versed in integrated and collaborative approaches that span molecular, cellular and neurophysiological techniques. In accord with this goal, the Centre for the Neurobiology of Stress will:
- serve as a focal point for uniting a group of internationally renown UTSC neuroscience faculty members around the central research theme of the neurobiology of stress
- provide the latest equipment infrastructure that is essential for the integrated application of cutting edge molecular, cellular and neurophysiological techniques to the analysis of the effect of stress on the nervous system
- create a stimulating and technologically sophisticated environment for the training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows who will be in an excellent position to enter the health-related employment sector
- spearhead opportunities for the development of in-house, local, national and international research collaborative projects on the neurobiology of stress
- establish a rich environment that will foster the attraction and retention of outstanding faculty members during the growth phase which is proposed for UTSC
