The aim of the Centre for the Neurobiology of Stress (CNS) is to promote cutting-edge research that employs an integrated approach to the study of the neural stress response, drawing on expertise from the molecular, cellular, physiological and organismal levels of analysis. CNS is located at the University of Toronto at Scarborough.

Stress significantly undermines human health. The ultimate goal of the CNS is to develop strategies that promote the ability of the nervous system to withstand stressors such as hyperthermia, ischemia/hypoxia, epilepsy and aging. This is best achieved if we increase our fundamental understanding of the response of the nervous system to stress. Since the mammalian brain has a limited capacity for repair, the new research may lead to the discovery of new ways of dealing with brain traumas and enhancing neural recovery after injury or disease.
