John Harper was chosen as the 2005 recipient of the Patrick Phillips Staff Award. John was recognized for his outstanding contribution and long-term commitment in the area of networking services at U of T Scarborough. It must be noted that John is an alumnus of U of T Scarborough with a Ph.D. in Astronomy and that he teaches an undergraduate Unix course at U of T Scarborough.

The letter of nomination was signed by seven of John’s colleagues. They had this to say about him.

"John’s job is a thankless one. The entire U of T Scarborough community, all students, faculty, and staff depend on the computing services that are John’s responsibility. There services run with detailed precision and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week thanks to John’s dedicated efforts."

"John is well respected by his peers; a mentor and resource of inexhaustible knowledge on many topics. He will always bestow more knowledge than you ask of him."
