Audio-Visual Services

In June, 2004, Lynval Salmon, Bill Husky, and Chris Bibby (the three-member Audio-Visual Services (A/V) team) received the Patrick Phillips Award for Staff Service 2004. They exemplify the qualities that Patrick Phillips encouraged, and valued, in Staff at U of T Scarborough.

Their ongoing quick emergency response, pro-active service, pleasant and helpful manner and excellence in high quality service represent and uphold important elements of U of T Scarborough’s mission. Their work assists in fulfilling the needs of students, staff and faculty.

“What a wonderful surprise,” they said at the award presentation. The team thanked everyone who nominated them for the award and especially Patrick Phillips whose unwavering dedication, fairness and commitment to the campus life in his years at U of T Scarborough not only made the University of Toronto a superior institution of higher learning, but also set a example for staff.

In the past three years the A/V team have embarked on an ambitious program to retroactively outfit the larger classrooms on campus to meet today’s “smart” electronic standards. They have extended their services into the evening hours and weekends without extra labour cost.

As U of T Scarborough has grown they have been involved in classroom technology design for the new buildings, in overseeing installations of high tech classroom environments, and in developing teaching tips and training options for faculty teaching in such environments.

In the Summer of 2001 they had only a weekend to install audio-visual equipment in the Pavilion. In the Fall of 2003 they had 48 hours to turn the gym into a 500-seat electronic classroom and spent many nights supervising contractors installing audio-visual equipment into the Academic Resource Centre (ARC). Their commitments to various extra-curricular activities, in support of enriching campus life, are numerous.

In January of 2004 they began to work with Student Clubs to implement cost effective services for student organizations.

In summary, Lynval, Bill and Chris contribute in extraordinary -- and often unseen -- ways to the life of the campus, consistently go beyond their calls of duty. They go about their work with a level of professionalism and dependability that students, staff, and faculty have come to count on and respect. The entire campus benefits from, and appreciates, their dedication to service, their expertise and their extremely positive attitudes.
