Unlike ballet and ballroom, Hip Hop dancing, which includes break dancing, popping and locking and freestyling, abandons the tight constraints of perfect technique, promoting improvisation and freedom of expression. jumps, pauses, spins, contractions, and syncopation's in movement are put together to develop an informal yet explosive dance class.

Muay Thai
The fighting style known as Muay Thai has long been recognized as an effective martial art since its conception in Thailand centuries ago. In the West, it is primarily know as Thai Boxing, however, it is also referred to as "The art of Eight Limbs" due to its extensive use of hands, feet, elbows and knees.
Students learning Muay Thai at UTSC will benefit from its complete use of the human body for combat. With influences of Western Boxing as well as from more traditional martial arts, one will notice that the strikes and footwork in Muay Thai are very practical and intelligent. One aspect of this sport, which separates it from the others, is its incorporation of a type of standup wrestling, known as 'clinching,' from which practitioners can fire knees and skillful tosses.
Due to the intensity required to master these techniques, students will require discipline and a willingness to learn. Muay Thai is physically demanding, both in its techniques and the conditioning it involves, but the extent to which one is capable of exerting themselves will dictate how they are encouraged and taught in class. In the end, those who take this class should look forward to learning a very effective standup martial art, having fun, and meeting a variety of people.

Pilates
Pilates is not a recent phenomenon or fad. It is actually a time-honoured system of physical conditioning developed by German-born Joseph Pilates, over seventy years ago. Pilates is widely considered the ultimate body-conditioning workout. It is effective, safe and always challenging.
The secret of Pilates is it works form the inside out at the deepest level of core abdominal muscles, emphasizing the quality of movement and focusing on posture and alignment with each exercise. With regular Pilates exercise, muscles will get stronger, longer and leaner and the body will move with greater ease and poise.

Yoga
Yoga is a noncompetitive activity, suitable for all levels of fitness. This 50-minute session is a time-out from your busy day. While working the physical body, you have an opportunity to check-in with yourself on emotional, mental and spiritual levels as well.
The focus will be on basic postures (physical exercise), breathing, meditation and relaxation practices. Over time with experiential practice an individual will develop a repertoire for relaxing the mind, managing stress and increasing wellness, strength and flexibility in the body.
Yoga is often defined as union because it coordinates the different functions of the body at a holistic level. It is a very ancient discipline that can create youthful vitality, radiant health with higher resistance to disease, harmonious interaction between body and mind and with this it can become a means to higher ideals. During practice awareness and consciousness are explored by requiring the body to take a new stance, to literally stretch its boundaries and to be the witness, the silent observer of the reactions and responses of the mind. As a result, we develop a better understanding of our nature, our response to change, stress and growth. We learn to move forward in our life with greater flexibility and presence of mind. It all begins with the simple process of making friends with yourself.
Yoga invites you to take charge of your life by healing your body, your soul and your mind. It is about self-empowerment, self-exploration and self-responsibility. All that is required is your personal experience.
Wear loose, comfortable, warm clothing.

You will learn exercises to enhance your power, endurance, strength, balance and flexibility. It is advised to bring your own water, hat and sunscreen. Open to all fitness levels.
Here is a list of a few of the fitness components we will be focusing on in the clinic:
- Agility: Agility is the ability to stop, start and change directions rapidly while under control. Example: running backwards in football and avoiding a tackle
- Balance and Stability: Balance is using the strength of many muscles at one time whilst fighting gravity to remain in control of your body movements. Example: remaining stable and in control after a check in hockey or lacrosse
- Reaction Time: Reaction time is training your body and mind together to create quickness in all movements during different scenarios. Example: avoiding that squirrel that darted in front of you during your downhill bike ride
- Hand-eye and foot-eye coordination: Coordination is vital in most sports. It is visually focusing on an object and/or person and coordinating your hand and feet movements correspondingly. Example: dribbling the basketball or passing the soccer ball accurately
- Plyometrics: Plyometrics is using the maximum power you can create to explode into different movements. It is creating the greatest strength at high speeds. Example: a volleyball spike
- Anaerobic Power: The ability to sprint jump or explode into different movements using primarily anaerobic energy systems. Example: Track and Field jumping
