Facilities
The Department of Athletics and Recreation at the University of Toronto Scarborough operates multiple athletic and recreation facilities that are open both to Students and to the community.
The UTSC Recreation Centre is a membership-based facility. In addition to registered students and graduate students, membership is available to U of T Staff and Faculty, U of T Alumni and members of the general community. Membership is sold from the Service Counter in the Recreation Centre. Click here for membership information and rates.
In addition to the Recreation Centre, the Department of Athletics and Recreation operates playfields, tennis courts and Dan Lang Field (baseball) in our lower campus valley.
Recreation Centre
Cardio Theatre & Cyclefit Room
Feel the ENERGY in our bright Cardio Theatre and Cyclefit Room. Enjoy the luxury of exercising on our new cardiovascular equipment and watching television. Just bring your own headphones, plug them into the box located on each cardio machine, and workout as the time flies by.
For a fun and energetic cardiovascular & toning experience, the Cardio Theatre is equipped with the following:

- recumbent cycles
- upright cycles
- sci-fit wheelchair accessible bike
- step mill
- step machines
- rowers
- summit trainer
- mat areas for stretching
- light hand weights
- medicine and stability balls

The Key
Unlock the door to healthy living. "The Key", our co-ed strength and conditioning centre, is a fully supervised 4500+ square foot air-conditioned room featuring state-of-the-art training equipment that you can use anytime the Athletics and Recreation Centre is open. It is named "The Key" because of its unique floor plan and its symbolic reference on how to open the way to a healthy lifestyle. Our open and friendly atmosphere includes a full range of strength & conditioning activities that fulfill your physical, educational and social needs.
The ideal place for toning, general fitness, and weight training, "The Key" is equipped in the following areas:
Cardiovascular Training Equipment for warm-ups including:

- Recumbent Cycles
- Upright Cycles

Weight Training Equipment including:

Gymnasium
Double gymnasium with 2 basketball courts, 4 volleyball courts or 8 badminton courts.
Squash Courts
The Athletics and Recreation Centre has eight North American Squash courts. The courts can be used anytime during our normal hours of operation.
Reservations can be made either in person or by calling the Athletics Service Counter (416 287-7099).
Teaching Studio
The Teaching Studio features a sprung hardwood floor and is located on the lower level of the Recreation Centre. The Teaching Studio is where fitness, dance, and the majority of the instructional classes take place.
The Valley
Field
Located on the lower campus, our playing fields consist of 2 multi-sport grass fields, suitable for Soccer, Rugby, Football, Cricket, Aussie Football and more.
Baseball Diamond
Located on the lower campus, the Dan Lang field is a full high performance baseball diamond and is home to the Varsity Blues baseball team. The Blues season runs from mid-August to late October.
Tennis Courts
Located in the picturesque valley, UTSC has 11 well-maintained and supervised outdoor courts.
Aquatics Centre
Aquatic Centre
When the last Pan Am and Parapan Am medals are given out in 2015, the new centre will shift from hosting the international community to hosting UTSC students and the local community as a world-class, multi-use athletics facility.
With two Olympic-sized pools, a dive tank, a four-court gymnasium, an indoor running track and a rock climbing wall, the complex will offer a vast array of recreational and personal fitness programming.
