Renaissance Spice Professor Dan Bender (Humanities) and Professor Rick Halpern (Dean & Vice-Principal, Academic) took alumni and friends on a historical journey through Europe and West Asia, tracing the history of the Spice Trade, featuring live food demonstrations and tastings. Eating the Empire Co-presented by the "Classes without Quizzes" alumni lecture series, Professor Dan Bender (Humanities) used sugar and tea to demonstrate the making of the modern world. The evening's menu included a selection of warm roti, British scones, and of course, tea: the "fuel" that powered the indentured servants who contributed to the rise of the British empire.
