UTSC's Communications & Public Affairs department supports the university with a wide range of services. From press coverage and web stories to program marketing materials and website redesigns, the Communications & Public Affairs department works with you to produce the best end product for you and for the campus identity. Click on our services below for more information.
UTSC's Style Guide outlines how the UTSC Visual Identity should be used. We encourage you to work with your department's Communications Caucus representative when designing your marketing materials. If your department does not have a Communications Caucus representative, please contact Communications & Public Affairs, 416-208-5149. When you submit a request for design assistance, please allow for three business days for our response. Designs using the UTSC Visual Identity must be approved by Communications & Public Affairs prior to production. Please allow one business day to turn around final design approvals.
We regularly engage with media in the community and across the country to gain recognition for UTSC and its faculty. Please contact us so we can determine a plan of action for your innovative research or special achievement. All faculty are encouraged to submit their areas of expertise to the Blue Book directory using the contact us form which media constantly scan when seeking expert opinion.
UTSC has 22 digital signs around campus to help communicate our messages to students, staff and faculty. A new layout now allows for a news ticker, daily events and a visual banner to be displayed. You may submit Today @UTSC and ticker items through the Online Story Editor.
To log into OSE, simply use your UTORid. Your items will go into an approval queue for the Communications department to monitor. Please allow 24-48 hours for postings to go live. If you have any questions or your item is urgent, please contact us immediately. In some cases, a banner on the homepage can be a very useful promotional tool. If you are interested in a banner, please contact us and we will explore this option with you.
Don't forget to submit your upcoming events to the UTSC Online Event Calendar. This should become a part of every department's promotional plan. Events in the Calendar will automatically be posted to the website, where the entire UTSC community can see what's coming up. In addition, our department uses this calendar to help fill the "Don't Miss" section of Inside UTSC so we can further promote your event to the internal community. We can also tweet about your event to the @UTSC followers, but if it's not in the calendar, we won't know about it! Please make use of this tool and help us make the calendar as robust as possible. Remember, all you need to submit your items to the Online Event Calendar is your UTORid. Your items will go into an approval queue for the Communications Department to monitor. Please allow 24-48 hours for postings to go live. If your item is urgent, please contact us immediately.
In addition to the Digital Signs and the Online Event Calendar, the Communications Department is also responsible for producing an internal eNewsletter called Inside UTSC. Published monthly on the first working day of every month (on hiatus in July and August), Inside UTSC's primary goal is to build community among internal staff members and faculty, keeping you informed of the cutting-edge research, innovative initiatives and dynamic campus experiences taking place at UTSC. This is your newsletter and a place for you to share your stories ? your contributions are welcome! If you have any feedback or story suggestions, please contact the Editor, Andrew Westoll at 416.287.7008.
Like a store window, the UTSC website is our opportunity to make a good first impression and invite the user "inside". It is an exceptionally powerful tool for building community, creating an engaged audience, building UTSC's brand and developing strong university recognition. Students and others who want to learn more about UTSC use the web as their primary source of information. To ensure that your web pages meet with university standards, please work with us when creating or redesigning your site or pages. Please contact us with any questions.
UTSC's staff photographer Ken Jones knows the campus and its community inside and out. Through his images, Ken captures and reflects the student life, cultural experiences, sources of inspiration and collaboration, and the beautiful natural setting that make UTSC such a special, vibrant and unique place. Most likely Ken is already covering your event but to be sure, please contact him at least two days in advance so he can make arrangements to be there and add your images to our growing photo library.
UTSC must have consent for displaying photos of our students. Contact Ken for release forms and advice on notifying students of their image use.
We work very closely with the campus videographer, Michael Murphy-Boyer, to produce videos that showcase our excellent academic programs, student experiences, campus culture and more. We can help make sure that your videos are of superior quality and get maximum exposure on the UTSC website and on the UTSC YouTube channel. We also work with IITS to film your talk or lecture for live-streaming and/or archiving and uploading to our growing video library.
