The University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) identity is both a concept and a visual framework. Our Identity Program has been created to represent UTSC's unique place in the University of Toronto tri-campus system and in the education sector at large. At its core, UTSC is an integral component of Canada's leading research-intensive university ? a place where the finest students are taught by the finest professors and where students pursue one of the most rigorous and respected post-secondary degrees in the world. As well, UTSC is also a dynamic campus, where experiential learning is a hallmark of the education we provide and where students, faculty and staff share a passion for making connections with the people and the world around them.
To express the dual nature of UTSC's identity, the Identity Program includes both the formal UTSC Signature (corporate identity) and the UTSC Graphic (representing the campus character). The Style Guide provides many examples of how these two visual representations work together.
UTSC's Visual Identity Framework is part of the larger University of Toronto Visual Identity Framework. This UTSC Signature is an essential part of the UTSC visual program, reflecting UTSC's foundations as a pillar in the tri-campus U of T system and the value it places on the high academic standards for which U of T is world renowned.
The UTSC Graphic represents the distinctive campus experience on a number of levels. The bold letters of the Graphic are inspired by the modern mindset at the UTSC campus. The colour palette is "earthy" and natural, representing the diversity of ideas and a global perspective. The overlapping of letterforms represents dynamic collaboration.
The Tagline is also a visual mark and anchor for UTSC's Visual Identity Framework. It should only appear in the letterform arrangement established for this Identity Program. It exists as an image in three lines, two lines or as a single line. It can be printed in white, black, PMS 655, or any colour of the approved palette.
Proper usage of UTSC's visual identity is extremely important for brand recognition, consistency, reputation and pride in the school. There are numerous versions of the UTSC signature, graphic and tagline, each of which has its own guidelines. For detailed information, please download the Style Guide.
Please contact us if you have any questions about logo usage. To receive the logos you need, contact us or a member of the communications caucus.
Letterhead, envelopes and business cards are a formal part of the UTSC identity. It is very important that the UTSC signature, graphic and tagline are properly utilized in stationery and that there is campus-wide consistency. Please note that to prevent waste, we recommend that you use up your current supply before ordering new stationery.
How do I get new business cards?
New business cards are now available for printing and can be ordered using the UofT
Automated Online Print Ordering System ordering system. Nothing has changed on the front
of the cards but the back reflects the colours and graphic of the new identity.
How do I get new letterhead?
Please use the UofT Automated Online Print Ordering System when it's time
to reorder stationery supplies. As the letterhead reflecting the new UTSC
identity is not yet available, we ask that you please use up the letterhead
that you have and if you need to place an order for more, order in small quantities.
Can I move elements to different places or customize letterhead to meet my department's needs?
The bottom line is? no. The strength of this unified approach comes through consistent application
so we urge for the cooperation of all faculty and departments. If your department has a specific need,
please contact us to determine whether or not your need can be accommodated on stationery.
